Our Farm

Our farm is located in Sewickley Heights, Pennsylvania. We are bordered by other farms, and a watershed area known as Little Sewickley Creek. Our farm is a support and resource to many species of wildlife.

THE LAND
Currently, about half of our 27 acres is pasture. The other half is house, barn, outbuildings, woodland and field border. We have fenced the sheep out of the creek in order to protect water quality and land erosion. We have planted many wildflowers in the field borders and native shrubs and trees to create a healthy wildlife habitat.

   THE PASTURE
We rotationally graze our sheep on small paddocks so the grass in eaten more evenly and pastures are fertilized partially with manure. Our pasture mixtures includes New Zealand white clover to boost nitrogen levels.

 OUR GARDEN
We are a non certified pesticide free farm. We grow our vegetables without pesticides and use naturally occuring insects and organic sprays. We grow a large variety of vegetables and apples, peaches and pears. Much of our produce is used on the farm, sold to local deli's, private customer or donated to local food banks. We hope to start a co-op in the near future.

OUR WILDLIFE
We mow most road and pasture verges in late July to provide cover for nesting birds, snakes and lizards. We have large and varied wildlife population here with a growing amount of wild turkey, pheasant, bluebird and barn swallows. Our School of Lambs & Ivy students build nesting houses for the bluebirds. Our Guardian Sheep Dogs help to protect the flock from coyote.

OUR NON PROFIT FRIENDS &OTHER VISITORS
Several non-profit groups visit the farm and either camp here or daily visit from various locations. In the past we have had visits from Verland special needs groups, Habitat for Humanity, Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, Noah's Ark Preschool, Pittsburgh Public Schools, and many more...
